There are a number of things that often hold someone back when it come to making a major change in one's life. Embarking on a new routine, for one, is enough to make anyone apprehensive about taking on a new task or challenge, especially when it feels like it may turn your entire day and routine on its head! For me, it's starting a business. Specifically, being my own business. There's no HR department. No billing department. No social media manager. Just. Me. I haven't been this nervous about something since I packed a (tiny) U-Haul with all of my things and moved down south to get married! This is scary, ya'll! But here's the thing: I'm OK with being scared. I have to be. If I allowed being scared to be a barrier that prevents me from moving forward I would have never moved down south to begin with. I would have never tried to run that first mile after quitting 6 years of smoking and excessive drinking. I would have never re-enrolled in school to take my education in a new direction. I would have never allowed myself to become a mother. And I certainly wouldn't be writing this blog post for you to ready today.
Doing something new and challenging does not mean never being scared. To quote one of the most amazing human beings to ever grace this planet, Nelson Mandella: "I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear." So don't be afraid of getting up, getting moving, trying something new, and pushing yourself harder today than you did yesterday. You only have today, and you can't waste it caring about scary!
